We regretfully have cancelled the 2007 New York Cinema Market. The reason for the cancellation is that we simply have not been able to put together a slate of films that would achieve the goals of the New York Cinema Market. We wish to thank everyone for the numerous entries we received. All your entry material together with a refund of your entry fee will be mailed back to you by no later than the end of September 2007. It remains our intention to re-launch the NYCM in 2008 if we can put together a slate of films that can fulfill the goals of the NYCM, which is to provide a showcase and financing forum for low budget films. Thank you for your interest in the NYCM and may your projects find success.

The Second Annual New York Cinema Market

November 17 & 18, 2007 at the Tribeca Cinemas

 Mission Statement

"Connect low budget indie filmmakers with non-traditional financing sources. A filmmaker will show their existing film and after that provide information (including a detailed budget of under $200K) on their next film project. Targeted audience will include bankers, hedge fund executives, etc. The key is that they can come watch films and evaluate potential investment opportunities in a non-sales pressure pitch environment. The NYCM founder’s background as a corporate banker provides access to this type of audience."

Why do we call the NYCM a “Market”? Because the NYCM allows filmmakers the ability to market their next film and also their existing film, effectively marketing themselves as filmmakers. The requirement for the next project will be budgets of a $200,000 or less, which is a budget level that nobody is focusing on. That is why we are.

The First Annual New York Cinema Market took place over three days from July 7 - 9, 2006 in New York City. Twelve independent films were shown together with several seminars. Some feedback from the audience is shown below. The Second Annual New York Cinema Market will continue to evolve and be expanded to include shorts.

Audience Feedback:

"It was great to see an event that celebrated truly indie filmmaking and filmmakers that has not turned into a vanity project. The films were diverse and interesting and the filmmaker in me defiantly left inspired. Though the budgets may have been limited there was no shortage of ideas, storytelling or talent. I was only there for one seminar and found it to be very informative and could possibly have saved me from a future lawsuit. I have to say my favorite part was just the filmmakers talking and interacting with each offering ideas, criticism, praise with absolutely no egos. I cannot wait until the next one and would love to be a part of it."

"High School Record might have been low budget but it was definitely no low quality.  The witty dialogue and cunning humor drew me in to the quirky but lovable characters.  There were a few ingenious and hilarious words and phrases, which are too explicit to write, that I have already used in casual conversation and that should be added to the English dictionary.  All in all, a very enjoyable and memorable film."

I was truly impressed by the variety of films and professional yet artsy setting for the film festival.  The location was exceptional for such an event. The Present – “While I had somewhat of a tough time with the repetition and violence, I appreciated its intensity and thought it was well made, with effective camera angles, interestingly conceived and challenging.” As to Friendship Hotel – “I had intended to leave early but I couldn't leave my seat....a sign of a good movie.  The film gave you just enough background and character development when you needed it so that it was riveting to see how the three lives came together and intersected during their stay at the hotel.  I thought the acting was superb in making the audience feel the level of tension that each character was feeling yet at the same time hiding from the others during their interactions.”

Opie Gets Laid "I thoroughly enjoyed this charming tale of "off-beat" lives intersecting in the city for a moment in time.  The ensemble cast was terrific - especially in the portrayal of their poignant delight in a modern day love quadrangle!"
